Who are we?
Incorporated in 1984, HWI (Halleck-Willard, Inc.) is a turnkey research, development and engineering service company focused on providing innovative and responsive product realization solutions. HWI has been involved in the development of hundreds of products encompassing defense, communications, transportation, industrial/motor control and consumer industries. We also specialize in medical device design with expertise in FDA requirements and submissions.
At HWI we employ engineering professionals who are cross-trained in various engineering disciplines and have earned over 120 patents to date. Flexibility enables us to provide innovative and successful solutions for our customers regardless of our entry point in the development cycle.

HWI is disciplined in the fields of electronics, mechanical, electromechanical, robotics, industrial, software, RF, ASIC and microminiture design. HWI is committed to protecting our client's project investment by offering patent services. Our engineers have secured more than 100 patents to date.
Quality and Regulatory
HWI's quality systems are compliant to ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 13485:2003 standards. We have vast regulatory experience with the medical community, including QSR for FDA requirements, CE marking, verification and validation, clinical trial assistance and 510K submissions.
HWI's Mechanical Engineering team has a broad range of experience across various product types and industry segments. Provided with advanced tools, including Solid Works, and hands-on knowledge and talent, HWI's Mechanical Engineers strive to develop products embracing a concurrent engineering perspective.
Software and Firmware
Our embedded engineers utilize a plethora of platforms and processors to create real-world solutions that can adapt, report and perform specialized tasks with precision and repeatability. We specialize in high-level algorithm development, to low-level drivers and hardware control. HWI can meet all of your software engineering and embedded firmware needs.
HWI specializes in engineering run, prototype and first article manufacturing. The "Proof of Manufacturing" process is pivotal in HWI's overall service philosophy. These steps enable us to reliably validate the long-term, volume manufacturability of our designs. RPC Manufacturing Solutions, specializing in contract manufacturing and assembly of electro-mechanical designs, and
HWI have formed an alliance to better serve our customers by providing industry leading design and manufacturing services. Whatever manufacturing challenges may exist, HWI and RPC can solve them.
Rapid Prototyping can be defined as a group of techniques used to quickly fabricate a scale model of a part or assembly using three-dimensional computer aided design data. HWI utilizes a Stratasys Eden 260V 3-D printer, CNC machine and a fully operational machine shop, along with Engineers certified in Solid Works 3-Dimensional Design, to produce quality prototypes that meet your requirements.

Michael D. Halleck
Michael Halleck is the President of HWI, a single source product development company established in Colorado in 1984. Mr. Halleck also serves as Vice President of Engineering for Sleep Methods, a venture funded sleep services company established in Washington DC in 2000. 35 years experience as an engineer in the electronic, computer science and mechanical fields. Highly experienced in real-time embedded, electro-mechanical (robotic), and digital signal processing systems. Listed inventor on 17 patents issued. Highly varied work experience in Military, Medical, Commercial and Industrial sectors. Participated with dozens of startups, providing services and guidance in raising capital, business and strategic planning, product development, regulatory, research studies and transfer to manufacturing. Worked with numerous research organizations: Mayo Clinic, National Jewish Hospital, Johns Hopkins Hospital, Hospital Universitaire des Enfants Reine Fabiola, to name a few of the more prominent institutions. As full academic scholarship student, Mr. Halleck earned a B.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Tulsa.
VICE PRESIDENT R&D
David E Halleck, B.S.E.E./M.B.A, serves as HWI’s VP of R&D having taken over this role in April 2018. Mr. Halleck is responsible for functional management, budgeting, hiring, planning, and technical oversight. Before joining HWI, Mr. Halleck worked as Sr. Manager at Bard Medical, Engineering Solutions Manager at Plexus, and Business Development manager at Sparton Medical Systems. Mr. Halleck is a graduate from the University of Colorado where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and Colorado State University with his Masters in Business.
Ali Elhouderi is an Embedded Systems Engineer at Halleck-Willard Inc. He is currently involved in various projects such as seizure monitoring system, sleep apnea detector and cold and compression therapy device. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Sebha University in Libya, and his first Master’s degree in Electronic Communications and Computer Engineering from the University of Nottingham in the UK. Ali also holds a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder where he is presently doing a PhD in the field of Biomedical Engineering. His research focus includes seizure detection, brain and spinal cord stimulation using different stimulation modalities.
VP OF OPERATIONS AND QUALITY
Rob Coffin was President of a successful construction company for 17 years accumulating knowledge in all aspects of business. Rob strives to create a positive and productive work environment emphasizing quality and efficiency. Understanding the complexities of job cost accounting, he can work closely with Engineering and Manufacturing to ensure a product that is cost effective and on schedule. Over the past 20 years, Rob has managed numerous multi-million dollar projects with 99% of the project being completed in time and on budget. He gained valuable manufacturing experience at General Dynamics in the Microprocessor Division for the F-14 fighter where he was responsible for the manufacturing floor adhering to military standards. Rob is a high school varsity football coach and former college scholarship athlete. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University.
David Nelson is an Embedded Engineer at HWI. He received his BSEE from the University of Arizona in 2000 and his MSEE from Arizona State University in 2005. During his career he has worked for companies such as Agilent Technologies, Raytheon Missile Systems, and Danaher (Hach). His specialties include hardware\firmware design and bringing a product from R&D through to production. He has been a part of teams in the design of several products including benchtop test equipment, missile electronics, water quality testers, and autonomous robots. Dave has experience in many aspects of engineering and feels comfortable digging into complex problems.
Jim Fox joined HWI as a staff engineer in 2012. He graduated from the University of Colorado in 1984 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. Over his career he been involved in the development and manufacturing products that include storage systems for main frames and PCs, consumer products, point-of-sale equipment and medical devices. His main responsibilities at HWI are hardware and firmware design but is involved in all aspects of product design.
David Veazie joined HWI as an electrical engineer in April 2018.
David received his A.A.S. in Electronic Engineering Technology in 1992 from SECC in Milford, NE and started his career as a production technician at Woodward Governor in Fort Collins, CO before moving into electrical development. He began to pursue his B.S. degree at this time and also transitioned to working with high-performance enterprise servers at Hewlett-Packard until 2003.
David double-majored in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering at SUNY Buffalo in 2008 while he was working at the Calspan transonic wind tunnel in Buffalo, NY where he helped test commercial and military aircraft products.
In 2008, David returned to CO and has worked with world class high-density/high-speed storage systems (Copan/SGI), wireless business aviation communication/entertainment systems (Gogo), and industrial solar control systems (SkyFuel). Outside of work, David is married with 3 grown children and enjoys sports and roots for the Green Bay Packers and the Colorado Rockies.
David Stotz is an Embedded Systems Engineer at Halleck-Willard Inc. He received his Electrical Engineering degree from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 2006. While in school, he worked for a contract manufacturer as a test equipment technician, servicing In Circuit Test equipment, 3D X-ray inspection equipment, Advanced Optical Inspection equipment and functional test equipment. After school, he focused on medical device development. Working on pathogen reduction technology for blood product processing, design of a urine measurement device using optics for urine measurement and patient targeted temperature management. Experience ranging from software development, hardware development, software verification, production equipment design, production equipment verification and production equipment validation.
David is currently involved in the development of devices with multi-sensor input and reporting to cloud platforms.
Prior to 2018, Huan contributed to efforts promoting STEM subjects and the CU engineering program at the St. Vrain Valley School District. Huan then obtained a B.S. in Electrical & Computer Engineering at CU Boulder, and now performs firmware and software development at HWI. The projects that he has contributed to during both a stint as an intern and current full-time employment include: firmware development for medical devices, written training material for practicing embedded engineers, and simple bootloader design on an embedded platform. At home, Huan enjoys reading and athletics.
Graduated from Anthem College in Phoenix, AZ (2001) with a degree in computer electronics specializing in both computer and consumer electronics repair. I have been actively working as a printed circuit board designer since early 2012 and acquired my IPC C.I.D (Certified Interconnect Design) Certification in 2013 and have since worked on many types of projects in many fields which include Prototype, Consumer Electronics, Medical, Military and Aerospace devices, with a focus on Schematic Capture, Analog, Digital, RF, High Power Switching Supplies, EMI Mitigation and High Density designs with high layer counts utilizing today’s high end tools such as Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, OrCAD Capture, Mentor xDxDesigner, Pads, Pads Professional, and Expedition.
Greg Younger is an Engineer at Halleck Willard Inc. At HWI, he has worked on many research and development projects from medical devices such as sleep apnea detectors, fall detectors, wheel chair controller and hospital bed controller, to military projects such as blast sensors to biohazard particle detection, and IR illumination. Greg specializes in schematic capture and printed circuit board layout, but also has contributed firmware for fall detectors and altitude sensors. Greg has worked at HWI full time since 1998. Previous to HWI, Greg worked at a company making home detentions systems and at a company making medical ultrasound scanners. He served 3 years in the army in the early 1970s. Greg went to a 2 year program at Electronic Technical Institute, and has taken classes at Colorado University Boulder for computer programming, embedded programming and real time operating systems. Greg enjoys golfing and fishing when he is not working.

Will Pfeifer performs duties as an Engineering Technician at Halleck-Willard Inc. In his brief time at HWI, he has returned function to various devices such as power amplifier circuitry and pump motor control systems. Prior to and during his higher education, he spent a decade dedicated to hard work and acquired from it knowledge in warehouse maintenance, product manufacturing, data processing, and inventory control. The companies Will considers vital to aiding the expansion of his skills include BI, Inc., Lockheed Martin Space Systems, Nite Ize, Inc., and Miller International, Inc. Will brings a fresh perspective and product development experience from obtaining his Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology at DeVry University. His personal interests include comic books, music, and all things technological.
Chip Stewart is an engineering technician working on most HWI projects since joining the staff in 2008. Chip obtained an Amateur (Ham) Radio License while still in high school, and remains an active ham operator today. Chip worked for the Time and Frequency Dissemination section of the National Bureau of Standards (now the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)), where he was instrumental in the design of a high power 60kHz transmitter for WWVB, microprocessor controlled automation of the WWV and WWVB broadcasts, and a microprocessor controlled time code generator for the GOES satellite system.
